Tip #2: Give Them a Job (Even a Tiny One)

Tip #2: Give Them a Job (Even a Tiny One)

1. Confidence starts with contribution

Kids don’t need to do everything to feel involved—just something. Whether it’s pouring the oats, sprinkling the cheese, or placing blueberries on a pancake, small tasks make a big impact. They feel helpful, included, and proud.

2. Match the task to their age

  • Ages 2–3: Let them pour pre-measured ingredients or stir something cool (like dry oats or yogurt).
  • Ages 4–5: Give them jobs like crumbling cheese, scooping batter, or arranging toppings.
  • Ages 6+: Invite them to measure, mix, and even flip—with guidance.

3. Praise the process, not just the result

Celebrate their effort, even if the pancakes aren’t perfect. Say things like, “You were such a great helper!” or “Thanks for sprinkling the cheese just right.” That connection builds trust and interest in helping again next time.
